Welcome Students! I am looking forward to a challenging and rewarding semester. Please look over the following information to familiarize yourself with our journey!

    Essential Materials: 8½ x 11 inch spiral-bound notebook (3 section), glue stick, colored pencils and markers, and highlighter

Each unit involves examining the constructs of the topic through reading, lecture, discussion and evaluation. In addition to tests and quizzes, students will also be evaluated on the following:

Projects and Assessments:  

Interactive Student Notebook - required for all students to help record, organize and process new information. Notebooks will be collected and graded at the end of each unit of study. They will be evaluated on thoroughness and quality of content, organization and visual appeal.

Earthweek Presentations - each student will be assigned to a news team that will feature current events, weather, exports and political figures from each region of study. Groups are encouraged to produce videos, PowerPoint presentations and conduct interviews.

Plays and Response Groups - students will be simulating various cultures through classroom play productions and group assessments to critically debate issues from various regions of study.

PowerPoint Presentations - students will produce presentations based on research conducted from units of study. Presentations can be either individual or group based projects.

Group Activities - there will be extensive involvement in interactive activities meant to promote the development of interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills.

 

Class Rules

  • Show respect and good manners to your teacher and fellow students at all times

  • No drinks or gum allowed (water is okay)

  • Come into the room ready to begin the day's lesson

  • Be considerate of other people's property

  • Include a clear, concise Thesis Statement
  • Write in 3rd person
  • Use Active voice
  • Choose verbs wisely!
  • Words to avoid: a lot, stuff, sort of, kind of, like, really, also
  • Write essays in blue or black ink
